Carnival!–Salem

Today is carnival. Carnival is Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, etc. It’s like Halloween. For places that really get into it people dress up in really elaborate costumes and do all those things that they’re going to give up for Lent the next day. In Antigua no one really seems to celebrate it, but we have a little celebration at school. It’s a lot like Halloween in US schools. Kids come to school in their costumes, there’s a parade, parents take pictures, and then the kids change back into their normal clothes for the rest of the day. Here they also give out prizes for the best costumes. It was a pretty fun day! The pictures describe it better than I could.

Mario. He won a prize for best costume. He kept jumping with his fist in the air like Mario and saying, “oh mamma mia!”

Zorro and a soccer player. Forgive me if you know who he is, but I don’t know much about Spanish soccer.
